Pomegranate Cocktails
& Beverages

Pomegranate cocktails are becoming increasingly more popular. Pomegranate martini anyone?

No doubt your favorite liquor or liqueur is now available in pomegranate flavor. You can buy pomegranate vodka, pomegranate wine, and pomegranate schnapps. Favorite cocktails run the gamut from margaritas to champagne cocktails. For non-alcoholic beverage fans, pomegranate smoothies, pomegranate tea, and pomegranate flavored water have all hit the market.

You can even find a "Pomegranate Frappucinno" at Starbucks - and the new "Pomegranate Paradise" at Jamba Juice is to die for!

If you love the taste of pomegranates, and would like to try mixing some pomegranate drinks of your own, we think you'll be crazy about these fabulous pomegranate cocktail recipes.  We've included recipes for everything from pomegranate martinis to pomegranate lemonade.

Pomegranate Cocktails

Champagne and Pomegranate Cocktail
1 sugar cube
1 oz. pomegranate juice
3 oz.  dry sparkling wine
Pomegranate seeds (optional)

Place a sugar cube in the bottom of a champagne flute. Pour the pomegranate juice over it, then the sparkling wine. Add a few fresh seeds for garnish.

Pomegranate Champagne
1 or 2 tablespoons pomegranate syrup* (see recipe below)

Put a tablespoon or 2 of pomegranate syrup into your favorite sparkling wine. Add a few fresh seeds into the glass and the bubbles will make them dance!

Pomegranate Syrup (Pomegranate Molasses)
1 cup pomegranate juice
1/2 cup sugar

To Prepare Juice
For 1 cup of juice, put 1-1/2 to 2 cups of seeds in a blender; blend until liquefied. Pour mixture through a cheesecloth-lined strainer or sieve.

To Prepare Pomegranate Syrup
In a 1-2 quart pan, combine pomegranate juice and sugar. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and cool. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Pomegranate Margaritas
2 cups pomegranate juice-to fill 1 ice tray
1/2 cup lime juice
2 tablespoons Cointreau or other orange-flavored liqueur
1/2 cup tequila

Pour pomegranate juice into ice cube tray. Freeze until solid, about 2 hours. Pop cubes from tray. In a blender combine lime juice, liqueur, and tequila. Turn blender to the highest speed and gradually drop in all but 2 juice cubes, whirling until slushy. Wet the top of serving glass and rim with salt. Place a pomegranate cube in the bottom of each glass. Pour margarita mixture in and enjoy.

Pomegranate Martinis
There are many versions of this popular drink.  We’ve included three different recipes.

Pomegranate Martini (Basic)
1/4 oz. simple syrup*
2 oz. vodka
2 oz. pomegranate juice

Shake all ingredients well with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass.  Garnish with pomegranate seeds or a lemon twist.

Pomegranate Martini With Cointreau
1 1/2 cups pomegranate juice
2 oz. citrus vodka or white tequila
1 oz. Cointreau liqueur
Splash of sparkling water (optional)
Squeeze of lemon (optional)

Shake all ingredients well with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass.  Garnish with pomegranate seeds or a lemon twist.

Pomegranate Martini With Lemon Juice
2 oz. citrus vodka
1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz. pomegranate juice
1 oz. simple syrup*

Shake all ingredients well with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass.  Garnish with peregrinate seeds or a lemon twist.

*Simple Syrup
Simple syrup is a combination of sugar and water. Make it by boiling two parts sugar to one part water, until the sugar dissolves.  When the sugar is dissolved, remove the mixture from the heat and allow it to cool. 

Pomegranate Punch With Vodka
1 quart pomegranate juice
2 quarts of sparkling water
1 pint vodka (whiskey may be substituted)
Juice of 1 lemon
Sugar or sweetener to taste

Combine ingredients and sweeten to taste.  May be served hot or cold.

Sparkling Pomegranate Punch
1 quart pomegranate juice
2 cups orange juice
2 cups chilled limeade
1 750-milliliter bottle sparkling wine or sparkling water

Combine pomegranate juice, orange juice and limeade in punch bowl.  Add sparkling wine and garnish with lime and orange slices. Serve over ice and sprinkle with fresh pomegranate seeds.

Pomegranate Beverages – Non-alcoholic

Pomegranate Iced Tea
2 oz. pure pomegranate juice
5 oz. tea
1 oz. simple syrup* (see recipe)

Prepare tea and cool.  Add pomegranate juice and simple syrup.  Serve over ice and garnish with a lemon wedge.

Pomegranate Lemonade
3 tablespoons sugar
¼ cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup pure pomegranate juice
2 ½ cups cold water

Combined sugar and lemon juice and stir to dissolve, add water.  Best when chilled for at least an hour.  Serve over ice.

Pomegranate Punch
There are lots of wonderful recipes for pomegranate punch.  We’ve included two of our favorites - one for the punch bowl and one for a pitcher.

Pomegranate Punch - Bowl
1 cup pomegranate juice
1 cup orange juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 cups water
1 cup sugar
1 quart ginger ale

Chill all ingredients.   Dissolve the sugar in water and combine with pomegranate, orange and lemon juice. Add ginger ale and serve. 

Pomegranate Punch - Pitcher
1 orange
1 lemon
1 bottle (2 liters) seltzer water, sparkling water, or club soda
1 1/2 cups unsweetened 100 percent pomegranate juice

Remove ends from orange and lemon and then cut 4 slices from each fruit. Combine seltzer, juice, and orange and lemon slices in pitcher.  Pour over ice.
